Leading the Way to the Summit
July 8, 2022
NOTE: This was taken from the blog of Foundations Health Solutions leader Bob Speelman. Bob works closely and frequently communicates with our Foundations Health facilities. It is so inspiring to see how each care team embodies the vision of our founder and nursing home developer, Brian Colleran, to be "A Culture of Care."
I spent the day working with Terri Nelson, a Nursing Assistant at Tuscany Gardens, our Center located in Pataskala, Ohio. Terri is 25 and has been a Nursing Assistant ever since she turned 16. Terri became a Nursing Assistant because her sister didn’t want to do the classes by herself, and so she decided to take them with her.
Terri is a natural caregiver and a natural leader.
She is a Lead Nursing Assistant at Tuscany and trains all the new Nursing Assistants. I asked Terri if she liked doing that, and she told me,
“Oh yes, I love it. I love to teach them the right way and making sure they are set up for success.” Terri went on to tell me about her love and compassion for her residents, she said,
“They are like family to me. I love them all very much. I want to make sure they get the care and compassion they deserve. As a Lead Nursing Assistant, I have the ability to make sure everyone is here for the right reasons.”
Terri was selected by her facility as one of two employees to attend our second annual LTC Heroes Summit. The Summit is on September 6th and 7th in Columbus, Ohio.
Every one of our facilities is sending two employee’s so there will be 126 employees attending. The purpose of the Summit is for our employees to give us input and feedback on what we can do better as a company. It’s not for the employees to be taught anything but rather for them to teach us. Our frontline staff is the backbone of our company and our Culture.
We are fortunate to have a TON of Leaders in our Centers across the State. Just like Terri, they want to make a difference every day, and they are.
Leadership isn’t about rank or title. It’s about leading the way, living out our Culture of Care and inspiring others to do the same.
Terri – I will see you soon at the Summit! Keep leading!!
